RESORT 2014

By Robert Rodriguez

"My customer comes to me for sexy," Robert Rodriguez says. And sexy is what he gave them for Resort, albeit with a sporty edge. Track pants, which do "really well" for the Los Angeles-based contemporary brand, were rendered in a tomato-red techno crepe and paired with a burnout-stripe sweater that showed more than a hint of skin. A chambray-and-white scuba moto jacket was topped off with a teensy bra top, and a tight pencil skirt was worn with a bondage-y knit tank fit for a Robert Palmer girl.

Rodriguez experimented quite a bit with fused fabrics. A double-face woven cotton gave a tiered miniskirt more shape, and the black micro-netting over a blush tube dress reinforced the overall sporty feeling. But he could have done without a gray sweatshirt decorated with a hibiscus-meets-tattoo motif. The collection s strong palette of mostly black and white, with hits of orange and nude, didn t need embellishment.
