"A career woman no longer needs to wear a power suit," declared Misha Nonoo at her new studio inside the CFDA Incubator. That statement says a lot about her tightly edited Resort collection, which was designed for a professional woman who wants to add a bit of lightness and femininity to her wardrobe.
While Nonoo s signatures were in full force—there were sheer insets, chevron sweaters, and plenty of pastels—she looked to the artists Robert Motherwell and Wade Guyton to help spur new ideas. A shiny blue skirt had a small band of horsehair trimmed into the hemline to create a wavelike detail, inspired by Motherwell s Beside the Sea; Guyton s broken lines informed the uneven stripe insets on several pieces, including a blue shirtdress and a collegiate sweater.
The mint-colored culottes, worn with a true-blue sweater with sheer white chevron panels, had a relaxed but totally polished feel, which seemed to be what Nonoo was going for. "It s about softness," she said. "But still composed."
