Rodebjer

RESORT 2015

By Carin Rodebjer

Carin Rodebjer makes a regular habit of taking inspiration from nature. For her first Rodebjer Resort collection, she looked to flowers: There was all manner of florals here, from the watercolor florals on a silky wrap dress or ruffle-detailed blouse, to the splashy graphic flower knit into a fuzzy sweater, to the small abstract floral covering a caftan of featherweight wool chiffon. There was even a kind of ditsy denim—an unlikely winner but a winning look nevertheless. All the flora lent the collection a kind of daydreamy, secret-garden feeling—but that wasn t the whole story. As is her wont, Rodebjer mixed her more fanciful pieces with ones very straight-up and matter-of-fact, like a short-sleeve coatdress or a washed cotton trenchcoat. There was also a strong tuxedo look, done in a substantial wool. A Swede recently relocated to New York, Rodebjer has clearly been paying attention to our city s varied springtime weather. All in all, this was pretty standard stuff for the brand, which certainly isn t a bad thing, with an extra frisson of casualness, thanks to the emphasis on tees and denim. Just the thing to wear when you want to stop and smell the roses.
