Rebecca Taylor

RESORT 2017

By Rebecca Taylor

Rebecca Taylor has an eye for floral prints and party dresses, but on an average day, you’ll find her in a crisp shirt and army pants. So it was nice to see a bit of her own casual, tomboyish style trickle into her Resort lineup: Yes, there were floral prints, but they were mashed together in an unprecious way, and flouncy going-out dresses were mixed in with cotton and jersey ones, too. Taylor designs pieces that are missing in her wardrobe, knowing other women likely feel the same way; for instance, the sweaters were nicely cropped and a bit boxy, all the better to wear with rib cage–grazing jeans, and she wanted a cool, versatile jacket to replace her vintage army parka. “Whenever I wear it, I look around, and every woman I see is wearing an army jacket, too,” she said. A pale pink blazer with padded, poufed sleeves should do the trick.

Taylor also expanded her denim selection, which ranged from floral-printed pastel jeans to a high-rise, wide-leg style with a frayed waistband and slimming strips of lighter denim down the sides. They were styled with a multi-print Victorian blouse in the lookbook, but Taylor was wearing them IRL with a baby-pink T-shirt and sneakers. It reflected how real women (and not just those in their 20s, either) want to dress. Mix your favorite basics with one special item, be it a statement top or novelty jeans, and you’re out the door.
