LaDoubleJ is the fashion emanation of JJ Martin’s beliefs and purposeful way of life, as it’s so intimately intertwined with her spiritual practice. As she says, “it’s for someone who wants to raise her vibration—that’s really what the goal is.” On her website, there’s a new section called Sisterhood where she provides connections with spiritual healers and yoga teachers. “These are the things I get really excited about.”
Recently she launched a menswear collaboration with Orlebar Brown; her perpetually-in-motion team brought the collection to St. Tropez, then to Portofino, where they took over the local Ö Magazin hip restaurant, and then to Ibiza. “We had a super-fun party, the island is filled with spiritual healers; they did energy cleansing, then we hiked to a remote cave and did sound healing and meditation in the cave.” Obviously the whole crew was clad in LaDoubleJ, which provides countless wardrobe solutions for everything from yoga lessons to palazzo parties to, if needed, cave visits. “LaDoubleJ should be about what I want to wear, what I want to eat, how I want to raise my consciousness, and expand my spiritual practice in a light way, so people can access it,” said Martin.
Reflecting a moment in her personal life in which she “needs more space,” resort was about prints that were less dense and more airy; solids were also interspersed across the collection to move the brand “beyond being a pure print player to a more comprehensive wardrobe offering,” she explained.
Attractive introductions included a series of white shirts, crafted tuxedo-style in crisp poplin with a plissé plastron at the front; and masculine pantsuits in patterned jacquard, with straight-cut blazers and ankle-cropped trousers. Jacquard was featured across the collection to add textural interest and richness to the surfaces, often woven with lurex or embroidered with sequins for sparkle. If you favor less all-over-printed options and align with Martin’s need for “more breathing space,” diaphanous plissé dresses in airy chiffon with delicate abstract motifs will have you covered. They’d look delightful worn under cashmere knitted cardis bejeweled with tiny crystals, or under big quilted puffers shining with sequins. Festive and ebullient, the collection will surely amplify anyone’s good vibration.
