As its name suggests, T by Alexander Wang began as a T-shirt line—we know girls who collect the designer s loose-fit, fine-knit drapey tees in every color—but the range has grown of late to include shirtdresses, cardigans, shorts, and pencil skirts. For Spring, there s even a silk charmeuse long dress in a neutral shade called desert. The colors here echo what we saw on Wang s September runway—plenty of white mixed in with shades of nude and gray. But whereas his signature collection pushes the style envelope, you won t find any Tyvek-like industrial materials or scribble prints in T. The focus, instead, is on a layered, made-for-everyday kind of silhouette: A cotton poncho might top a rayon silk muscle tee, tank dress, and cotton sweatpants, while a cardigan in pima modal (is there a softer, more delicious fabric on the planet?) gets paired up with a crisscross-back tank and a stretchy ruched skirt. The relatively made-for-everyday prices will make it an integral part of the mix at Wang s first ever store, set to open in Soho at the end of New York fashion week.
