Fashion blogosphere fave Leandra Medine, a.k.a. the Man Repeller, made her runway debut today at the Rebecca Minkoff show. Wearing a pair of non-man-repelling leather shorts, Medine whipped out her iPhone midway down the catwalk, naturally, and recorded the barrage of flashbulbs from the photo pit. Minkoff is a pro when it comes to social media (she s a prolific Tweeter, and hosts frequent blogger breakfasts for girls like Medine), so she s got her finger on the pulse of what her customer wants. And what her customer wants is: everyday clothes and accessories with a slight edge that just so happen to hit on the season s major trends. Neon (arguably overdone at this point, but the hot orange and pink clutch here was seriously covetable), macro florals, python prints, and silk slipdresses (one with a striking, shredded-effect back detail that echoes a rib cage) all showed up on the runway.
While Minkoff s bread-and-butter accessories are usually on-point, the shoes in particular stood out today. One pair of heels had a plunging, deep V of toe cleavage and sexy ankle straps. Simply put: Minkoff s formula works. Her designs sell like hotcakes, and she is continually evolving the label into a lifestyle brand. (Minkoff s own lifestyle may be about to change: She s days away from having a baby boy, and she showed this off by rubbing her belly while taking a bow.)
