Jonathan Anderson is Showing His First Dior Womenswear Collection Today—Follow Along With Vogue Editors Here
This womenswear season is unprecedented in fashion, with 15 designers launching collections at labels across New York, Milan, and Paris. We’ve already seen debuts from Nicholas Aburn at Area, and Simone Bellotti at Jil Sander, Dario Vitale at Versace, and Louise Trotter at Bottega Veneta. Today, we will get to see Jonathan Anderson s vision for womenswear at Dior—he debuted menswear back in July. Vogue editors will be live-blogging the show—some of us from the Jardin des Tuileries, where the show will take place; and others from the comfort of our homes while watching the livestream. Join us as we rev up for one of the season’s most anticipated events.
Downloading my mental notes: Welcome Miss, or Ms, Dior. When YSL introduced youthful, Left Bank elements at Dior it didn’t go down so well. JA nailed it. V as in Vivier. Lots of historical references in the shoes. The idea of couture signifiers, hats, silhouettes.
And finally, the idea of Marie Antoinette as painted by Vigée Le Brun, en deshabilée. Which somehow brings me around to Armani and the idea of revolutionizing things by taking the stuffing out of tradition and making room for lightness.
She Walks In Beauty…
The livestream soundtrack features a reading of She Walks in Beauty by Lord Byron. How lovely.
She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies;
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes;
Thus mellowed to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.
One shade the more, one ray the less,
Had half impaired the nameless grace
Which waves in every raven tress,
Or softly lightens o’er her face;
Where thoughts serenely sweet express,
How pure, how dear their dwelling-place.
And on that cheek, and o’er that brow,
So soft, so calm, yet eloquent,
The smiles that win, the tints that glow,
But tell of days in goodness spent,
A mind at peace with all below,
A heart whose love is innocent!
