Chiemeka Offor

I am Chiemeka Offor, a Nigerian-American editorial and surrealist photographer that focuses on topics like colorism, texturism, and body image. I highlight the experiences of young black women and our dynamic relationships with our self worth due to society's beauty expectations, western influence, and assimilation. Documenting our conflicting emotions ranging from vulnerability to empowerment as we navigate our relationships to these internal and external pressures. This is an ongoing project because there are so many stories and perspectives I hope to represent. For now, I often use self-portraiture as a way to visually communicate my own relationship to these complex topics. While doing this, I take much inspiration from my dreams, afro-futurism, and surrealism. By using dramatic elements of light, color, distortion, and fashion, I intend to mesh the two worlds of fashion photography and visual activism.
