Photo: Courtesy of Bottega Veneta2/6“[Cypress] was an interesting plant to transform into a fragrance because there is a very close link between the cypress and architecture,” said perfumer Alexis Dadier of its vertical resemblance to the villas’ ionic columns. “Imagine that we are in springtime, that it’s the end of the morning, the sun is very high in the sky, the sky is very blue, [the] light is very bright, and you have this cypress in the garden of the villa that is raising toward the sky.” Notes of salt, pink pepper, and juniper berries embolden the deep green plant’s dense freshness.

Her mixture of mint and grass with the yellowing fruit was designed to evoke “autumn, the summer has gone—the impression of things that crash together.”

Photo: Courtesy of Bottega Veneta4/6Visually vibrant azaleas under a high sun became the meditation for Dadier’s second fragrance for the collection. “At the end of the afternoon, when the sun has warmed the ground—at this precise time of day, the sensual and creamy smell of these flowers combined all together [with the rest of the garden] create a cloud that is overwhelming and makes you feel very good,” a comfort that was enhanced by vanilla absolute and made robust with woody chestnut.
