Public School’s Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow planned to reference Nicolas Roeg’s 1976 film, The Man Who Fell to Earth, before Bowie’s passing in January. On their men’s runway, the film’s influence could be felt in the narrow silhouette, survivalist garb, and one model with Bowie-orange locks.

Alessandro Michele’s fascination with the German movie Christiane F is well documented—see Gucci’s Spring campaign for the proof—but he took his dedication to the film and to David Bowie one step further for Fall 2016. Michele sent out an embroidered cardigan with Bowie’s name across the back, referencing a jacket a character in the film wears, and also the musician himself.

Katie Eary found inspiration for Fall in a documentary exploring the creative relationship between David Bowie, Iggy Pop, and Lou Reed. Bowie’s influence in particular could be felt in metallic silver pieces and some “ziggy” patterns on gender-fluid separates.
