After a year of soft silhouettes and comfortwear, this season designers didn’t want you to forget about the versatility of really good denim. Whether a structured midi skirt, a crisp shirt jacket, an intricately cut dress, or a sleek pair of jeans, fall’s assortment of designer denim is anything but ordinary.
While denim feels familiar to our wardrobes, these iterations don’t lack the unique design details or infusions of a brand’s DNA. Designers have used the casual Americana material on their own terms, and, of course, in their own stylish silhouettes. We saw polished looks with elegant denim separates from Erdem, Dior, Alexander McQueen, Wales Bonner, and Dries Van Noten, to name just a few. The trend allows for a much more natural (and practical!) progression of celebrating getting dressed again than, say, a brightly colored minidress or sequined partywear would. Not to mention, blue denim is undoubtedly a go-to when it comes to a fall wardrobe, so there’s really no better time than the present to embrace it. It’s a style that is timeless rather than fleeting, and something most everyone is comfortable pulling off.
