“I have never been that adventurous when it comes to denim. I didn’t realize just how classic my collection was—dark wash J Brand skinny jeans for winter, classic cut Levi 501’s in lighter washes for summer—until I had one of those ‘I have nothing to wear’ moments where you stare at your closet hoping to come across something, anything, with that extra oomph. Obviously, my skinnies aren’t going anywhere, but sometimes we all have to spice things up. These are my new statement jeans by Nasty Gal’s reworked vintage line called After Party. The salvaged denim (mine are bootcut Levi’s) suits my classic side, while the modern reworking (I love the top to bottom grommets—so gaudy!) serves as the perfect denim comeback.”

“I hadn’t worn flares since J Brand did those extreme bell-bottoms (in, what, 2008?) when my colleague wrote about Citizen of Humanity’s Fleetwood. After reading her testimonial, I obviously had to try them for myself. I now own them in three washes! What’s more, after years of skinnies, they’ve opened the flare floodgates.”

“These jaunty mid-length, frayed jeans manage to check all the trend boxes, while still being ridiculously comfortable. After years of stifling skinnies, they feel not just liberating, but they automatically up the funk factor of any outfit.”

“After what seems like years of wearing Hedi Slimane’s sleek skinny jeans for Saint Laurent, I finally found my new favorite jeans with J Brand’s Photo Ready ankle skinny version. The cotton is super soft, and the length hits perfectly whether worn with Chelsea boots or sick kicks. And while I’m not a fan of pre-shredded denim, this version achieves the look with subtlety and simplicity.”

“I m always hesitant to spend hundreds of dollars on a pair of new trendy jeans. It’s hard to commit to a new style that you’ve never tried before; what if it’s not flattering? What if you wear it once and never again? I recently bought my first cropped flares from Zara and a pair of high-waisted boot-flares from Topshop—both under $100. They are both great quality denim that also broke me out of my winter skinny jean tucked-into-boots rut!”
