Inside Elizabeth Olsen’s New York Fashion Week

Last night, Tory Burch brought out one of the starriest crowds of New York Fashion Week for her spring 2025 collection, held at the Domino Sugar Refinery in Brooklyn. In the front row were A-listers such as Michelle Williams, Jodie Turner-Smith, Mindy Kaling, and Elizabeth Olsen, all of whom showed up in Burch’s modern-cool suits and dresses. Turns out, Olsen and Burch have a friendship that runs deep. “Getting to celebrate her is always a joy,” Olsen tells Vogue. “She’s known me since I was a teenager, so I always love to see her and her family at these shows. Every show she creates has a celebratory and fun energy that makes anyone there smile.”
Olsen is no stranger to attending fashion week, of course, having attended many shows over the years. (Plus, fashion runs in her DNA, considering sisters Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen also run their empire over at The Row). For the actor, though, attending a New York presentation is always especially exciting. “The energy of the city is wild this time of year, and to be here in the fall—there’s really no season I love more in this city,” says Olsen. (We have to agree.) “Returning to New York after living here for many years is always a treat.”
Documenting her getting-ready process for Vogue, Olsen hit the Tory Burch show with a refined look. The star wore one of Burch’s textural suits, consisting of a polka-dot blazer and geometric-print trousers. “When I saw the bow-legged pants, I knew they would be a fast favorite,” says Olsen. “They’re flattering, comfortable, and cool. The shape and texture of them with the pattern of the blazer is playful and relaxed.” On the runway, meanwhile, Olsen says she was a fan of the spring-ready dresses. “I loved this dress. It’s effortless and in person, you could see how beautifully it moved,” says Olsen. (Perhaps we will see her sporting it on the red carpet sometime soon.)
When asked what pieces Olsen will be wearing this fall ahead, the star admits that she is dressing mostly for comfort—but will be looking to take more risks. Call it the fashion week effect. “I have enjoyed doing press recently for His Three Daughters with Carrie Coon and Natasha Lyonne; They’ve inspired me to show more leg and embrace dressing up,” says Olsen. The actor adds that much of her wardrobe is made up of vintage pieces that she’s collected over the years. “When I travel, I always try to find at least one special item from a vintage shop,” says Olsen. “The pieces often end up being blazers and button ups from the 80s and 90s, but I’m starting to build a slate of back-up vintage dresses fit for a red carpet if I’m ever in a pinch.”
Olsen certainly has more step and repeats to hit in the weeks to come: She will be continuing to do press for His Three Daughters, and will be attending a world premiere for her new film, The Assessment, with Alicia Vikander and Himesh Patel. “It’s a real privilege to make a film, and I’m incredibly proud to support the work in both of these independent films and share them with the world.” We’re excited, too, Liz.
