Vogue’s February cover star, actor Florence Pugh, has the range. And while the descriptor most often applies to her acting abilities—the last year alone has seen Pugh morph onscreen from a WWF novice to grief-stricken scream queen to the brattiest of the March sisters—it also defines her unending parade of updos.

The most recent iterations of her tie-back have colored red carpets from late 2018: her topknot at the London premiere of The Little Drummer Girl was wound high and coupled with romantic flyways, the better to highlight her peachy makeup palette. 2019 kicked off with even jauntier versions of the same style, one knot rounded by sprays of escapist strands, the other scraped tautly at the crown, pulling focus to a braided confection of a bun.

For an actress on a seemingly meteoric rise, an above-neck calling card can t hurt—all the better to dominate the inevitable future red carpets.
