Inside an Eclectic Art Deco Miami Home Inline
Photo: Richard Powers1/9Remodeling this house was a very personal exploration of my own aesthetic, which made it such a great experience. It really was the perfect canvas.
Photo: Richard Powers2/9The living room really highlights the house’s strongest Art Deco features. The oversize round window glows with light and provides a sneak peek into the space for guests walking through the pool area to the front entrance. Though I am fond of the typical Miami architecture, I didn’t want to make it a Deco showcase, but rather blend different styles.
Photo: Richard Powers3/9This view from the living room to the dining room really captures the original architecture of the house that I fell in love with, like the fluted columns, Art Deco staircase, and terrazzo floors. The layout is very interesting, and each room gives the house a lot of character. I am also very proud of this game table, which is a custom piece I designed in collaboration with Gaspar Saldanha, grandson of the famous mid-century Brazilian mosaic artist Paulo Werneck.
Photo: Richard Powers4/9I really enjoy going to vintage shops when traveling to South America, and I picked up this bar on one of my trips. The chair is a reproduction of a design by Ricardo Fasanello from 1969 called Anel. The architecture of the house was a beautiful frame for the objects inside.
