It’s really nice and surprising to get art from fans, the best way to connect with people. The image on the cell phone case was one of my first press pieces when I was on the cover of the Village Voice.”

We don’t get to see each other much anymore because she lives in New York still and I live in Los Angeles now, so it was really good to hang out just for the night. The tee I’m wearing is actually from Moscow. I had a show there last month and they had a lot of amazing souvenirs there.”

I would like to see my performances be more performance art than me just standing onstage singing or jumping around. So it’s fun to do something different when performing now, whether it be my visuals or my interaction—or lack of interaction—with the crowd. I just want people to leave interested in what they saw or feel or completely confused, either way, an objective was reached in both cases.”
