Larger-than-life beauty statements are a London Fashion Week signature—but if there’s one thing we’ve come to expect from the English capital, it’s to expect the unexpected. This season, the best hair and makeup moments from the runways channeled a refined new sensuality that felt familiar (not to mention thrilling) to real women seated in the front row. After all, what party girl didn’t pine for J.W.Anderson’s triangular statement earrings—and the easy, slicked-back, day-to-night knots that went with them? Or the tactile quality of a stamped-on raspberry lip? It didn’t take long for those reverberations to make their way to the street, turning up in a flash of skin or a lived-in front row hair cameo (thank you, Kate Moss). Here, the six beauty lessons we plan on taking home with us from London Fashion Week.

At Antonio Berardi, makeup artist Val Garland paired a vibrant poppy mouth against otherwise bare skin, while designer Roksanda Ilincic sent models down the runway with a saturated cherry-tinged stain (shown) that recalled—what else?—her own knockout trademark lip color.
Photographed by Jason Lloyd-Evans2/6This fall, your statement accessories are going to become one with your hair: J.W.Anderson’s scraped-back twists (shown) created a cool backdrop for the designer’s oversize geometric earrings; Simone Rocha’s textured waves looked best wrapped around the throat and layered with pearl necklaces; and Burberry Prorsum’s fuzzy waves were tucked into an oversize collar or scarf.

Elsewhere, Naomi Campbell and Emily Ratajowski turned up front row sans tights and Cara Delevingne showed a flash of thigh between the hem of her miniskirt and the top of her over-the-knee-boot. It’s time to invest in a good leg oil—now.
