Eddie Redmayne, Uma Thurman, Liev Schreiber, and More Got Cozy at a Screening for Loro Piana

A starry spate of guests convened at the Whitney last night as Loro Piana—that storied purveyor of luxury knitwear—presented Cashmere: The Origin of a Secret, a documentary short by Luc Jacquet (best known for March of the Penguins). The film sets its sights on the Altai and Helan Mountains, where Capra hircus cashmere goats and their devoted herders weather some of the most extreme temperatures on earth. The first in a suite of three shorts, Cashmere: The Origin of a Secret surveys the extraordinary origins of extraordinary textiles. “Through his artistic lens [Jacquet] has been able to capture the wonder of this endeavor, which has captivated us so profoundly for decades,” says Loro Piana CEO Fabio d’Angelantonio.
Among the screening’s attendees were Uma Thurman, Eddie Redmayne, Sharon Stone, Liev Schreiber, Princess Olympia of Greece, and Derek Blasberg, who all mingled over cocktails when the short—with its sweeping Mongolian vistas and high-desert sands—faded to black.
