The Couture Council of The Museum at FIT Honored Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri With a Lovely Luncheon

“I am really touched to be here in the context of The Museum at FIT, a space for research on fashion, a space for education. This is something very special—to understand that fashion is part of culture, part of history, and that by studying it, we understand ourselves and our society,” Grazia Chiuri told the luncheon attendees upon accepting her award for the 2022 Couture Council Award for Artistry of Fashion. “To start conversations with artists, with women artists around the world who help me understand what fashion is really about—clothes, but also culture and identity. It is with them that I share the honor of this award today.”

“We celebrate her, not only as the first woman to lead the legendary House of Dior since its founding in 1946 but also as a visionary who is dedicated to the global community of women,”

said Dr. Joyce F. Brown, president of FIT. “Her vision–that one can be both a feminist and feminine–is reflected throughout her collections with elegant, graceful designs for women of all sizes, shapes, and ages. For aspiring designers, such as the students at FIT, she is an inspiration–and it is our honor to recognize her work and contributions to the world of feminism and fashion.”
