In 1961, Hubert de Givenchy designed the famous black dress for Audrey Hepburn’s role of Holly Golightly. After Hepburn’s death in 1993, in the spirit of continuing her charity work, the designer began donating pieces from his collection in order to aid disadvantaged children. Givenchy donated the black satin gown to City of Joy Aid, and in 2006 the dress was auctioned off at Christie’s for over $900,000.
