Spring 2015 Is All About the Neck—What’s on Yours?
Perhaps nobody can better illustrate fashion s current neck fixation than an early nineties Kate Moss—the model spent most of the decade split equally between two seemingly opposite adornments: a demure, nape-covering turtleneck and a choker necklace. Think of the opportunities offered by each! A black turtleneck brings up cinematic, gamine Audrey Hepburn–in–Funny Face allure; the choker delivers more of the devil-may-care, Johnny Depp–on-the-arm quality. A quality that seems to be in hot demand, mind you: The spring runways runneth over with variations on the choker, from the charm-bejeweled versions at Rodarte, the double-wrapped bauble-bearing numbers at Lanvin, or Givenchy s rock-meets-Victoriana vibe. As for the turtleneck? It’s so much more than a trend, it’s an eternally tried-and-true Moss–approved classic that can be worn with anything from a slip dress, to sleek trousers. The moral here? No matter what you choose this season—a sleek sweater or nineties redux necklace—just be sure to make like Moss and go for the throat.
