We’re having friends over for dinner at our upstate barn for New Year’s Eve. My husband is the cook in the family and little does he know the menu will be inspired by The Mission Chinese Food Cookbook he got for Christmas! I will be appropriately dressed in this lavish Gucci chinoiserie-printed robe—perfect for decadent celebrating.

We will be upstate with our good friends drinking margaritas and eating giant bowls of my green pozole. Something cozy, stretchy, and just a little bit sexy is in order. In 2016, I resolve to read more books. At the top of my list is The Argonauts, by the excellent writer Maggie Nelson who I went to college with way back when.

I am spending New Year’s Eve at a three-story Victorian house in West Cornwall, Connecticut, that my friend Taylor McNeill told me about. I plan on spending the evening making new traditions: cooking an elaborate dinner in our pajamas, listening to music on my new Vifa Helsinki wireless speaker, and as the clock strikes midnight, we’ll go out the back door, run around the house, and enter through the front to signify a fresh start! Resolutions? To start saving more money for my 10-year plan, of course.
