In a season that saw the clothes grabbing the spotlight, the accessories, while much more subdued, were still a big part of the story. This time around, they are less of-the-moment and more seasonless. For the most part (save a great fur glove here and there) they are the kind of classic, understated items that you can buy now and wear forever.

In a season where the coat played the role of big, splashy accessory, the handbag took a backseat, but brilliantly. Gone is the notice-me hardware, and in its place is a quiet, classic functionality. These are the worth-the-splurge bags (look to Prada and Chloé for shining examples) that will last longer than you do, and be suitable for any location at any time of day. Want to blend in even more? The discreet bags at Proenza Schouler, Céline and Hermès were so understated (and, in some cases, were done in the same pattern or fabric as the clothes) that they almost disappeared.
