The evening also saw the unveiling of the Marcella Hymowitz Creative Fellowship, with a $1 million endowment granted by her husband, Gregg Hymowitz, and the Hymowitz Family Foundation, which will fund dancers from around the globe over the course of the next decade. Coinciding with this major announcement, Sergey Gordeev, YAGP Director of External Affairs, revealed that the Senate has passed a resolution, submitted by Senators Chuck Schumer and Marsha Blackburn, that YAGP is officially “the National Youth Dance Competition of the U.S.”

Libby Klein, an artist and mom-of-five, spent weeks working painstakingly on her hand-painted slippers, which are included in the auction. Klein hopes they’ll not only inspire the future owner to move gracefully through the world, but peacefully and mindfully too. Poignantly, the sole of her shoe bears her signature bumble bee—the insect doesn’t know it’s not technically supposed to fly as its body is too heavy for its wings, but it does so anyway—along with the phrase ‘Dreams Can Come True.’ Thanks to YAGP’s support of best in class talent, those dreams of so many young aspiring dancers are being actualized, allowing them to truly soar.
