To describe the exquisite Bvlgari boutique on Via Montenapoleone as a ‘store’ would be like describing an haute couture frock as a ‘nice dress’. This is no store. Rather, it is a sublime treasure trove of dreams. Housed in the Palazzetto Taverna Radice Fossati - a neoclassical jewel box built in 1835 by Ferdinando Albertolli - it is where history, architecture and the joy of gifting converge in the most magnificent way. Still, as tempting as it was to linger over the Roman inspirations, Milanese artistry, golden light falling just so, I wasn’t there simply to admire the setting. I had come on a mission: to find a gift. Specifically, I was shopping for my two sisters; both fans of Bvlgari but with very different tastes. One loves to layer. The other has a more minimalist, singular approach. Mulling over their reaction to their gifts; the surprise, the delight, the recognition… I’m filled with joy. Gifting to me has always been an act of translation. Of love, of thoughtfulness, of generosity. It’s never just about the object, but the message around it: I know you. I see you. I celebrate you.
That ethos was mirrored from the moment I walked in. Luxury can sometimes keep you at a polite distance. Not here. At Bvlgari, the welcome was gracious and warm, inviting me in as though we were kindred spirits in the art of joy. Shopping here didn’t feel transactional; it felt personal. It felt like an experience. One that reminded me that generosity was just as chic and as beautiful as the jewels set before my eyes. And so it began.
The Serpenti collection was my first port of call - because honestly, who could resist Bvlgari’s Serpenti Viper bracelet? It’s such a contemporary icon of the Roman jeweler’s artistry, available in 18-carat gold and offered in a sleek, minimal version - perfect for layering in different colors - or enhanced with pavè diamonds. I’ve always loved how it coils so fluidly around the wrist, a subtle nod to the serpent’s mythical symbolism: ever-evolving, strong, and confident. There’s something empowering about that. And, on a purely practical note, it’s incredibly easy to wear, pairing beautifully with just about anything. All of that made me think immediately of my stylish, fashion-forward sister who simultaneously also loves her pieces to feel timeless. This bracelet is something she’ll adore now, and treasure forever.
From there, I moved on to the B.zero1 rings. I’ve always loved their sculptural shape: these strong yet elegant moving spiralling bands of gold, a nod to Roman architecture that also embodies something utterly contemporary. The rings are incredibly special and ultimately irresistible; I couldn’t help but think about the simple joy that comes from just slipping them on every morning until they become part of you. That, to me, is the thrill of gifting something that doesn’t just mark occasions, but settles seamlessly into someone’s everyday ritual. Plus, its bold yet understated lines are perfect for my less-is-more sister.
There is something celebratory about Divas’ Dream; the elegant, playful, fan-shaped pendants inspired by Roman mosaics capturing the vivacious nature of the Eternal City. I knew exactly which tastemaker friend of mine would adore them. The one who loves to entertain, for whom life is always a party waiting to happen… Each collection spoke to me in its own language and yet, together, they created a portrait of what gifting can be - surprising, joyful, deeply personal. Still, I faced a dilemma. How does one choose when surrounded with a plethora of dazzling choices? I guess part of the journey of gifting is staying focused! I was here specifically looking for gifts for my sisters, remember? And so Divas’ Dream - just like the Bvlgari Tubogas which I personally love and also can’t wait to gift - remained in store, but absolutely on my list for next time.
When I finally - reluctantly - left Bvlgari, shopping bags in hand, the streets of Milan sparkled and so did I. In the end I chose the B.zero1 ring and the Serpenti Viper bracelet, but what I carried wasn’t just a jewel - or two. I carried a gesture, a memory waiting to be made, a promise of celebration with someone I love…. And perhaps that is Bvlgari’s greatest gift: the reminder that giving - surprising, delighting, sharing - is, in the end, the most luxurious thing of all.
