Are fashion and sport that different? Professional snowboarder Chloe Kim believes the two have more in common than we may think. “There’s a big connection between fashion and sport because sport is another form of art where we really express ourselves,” says Kim. “For me, snowboarding is my escape and I think the same with fashion. Just being able to be myself unapologetically…I think is the most empowering thing to feel. Fashion and sports both allow me to do that.”
For Eternal Eras of Fashion, a Vogue x eBay campaign that connects the past and present, Kim certainly brings the same expressive passion she shows on the slopes into Eternal Eras’ supercharged pre-loved and vintage luxury looks. Here, Kim takes on the role of a glamorous disco queen of the ’70s, a sporty Parisian babe of the ’80s, and, for her most megawatt moment, a Y2K It girl. In a ’70s nightlife outfit, Kim wears a glamorous strapless Saint Laurent catsuit. To top the ensemble off, she wears an expertly authenticated handbag by Chloé as well as head-turning jewelry: a vintage gold double-row bracelet, an amethyst and garnet ring, a multicolored gemstone necklace, and gold knot earrings.
“I feel like you get to bring back a piece of history to present times,” says Kim about the thrill of giving new life to pieces found on eBay. “And that’s my favorite part of buying pre-loved items.” This sentiment rings chicly true for her sporty ’80s look that comes with a French twist. To give bold-shouldered elegance an athletic edge, Greenspan styles a Celine blazer and kicky heels with leggings. Noting that she “was born during Y2K,” Kim seamlessly translates the early aughts moment into the present. When she was a teen, her father bought her her first snowboard on eBay. “They were really good, like legit quality. That’s what kind of helped me afford to snowboard,” she recalls. “Now, I get to do way more shopping than just buy snowboards on eBay.” Who wouldn t love that?
