A Billie Eilish outfit is, by now, instantly recognizable: there’s the tomboyish silhouette, usually comprised of shorts that approximate culottes, and a baggy T-shirt that fits the 17-year-old pop sensation more like a dress. While Eilish tends to opt for bold graffiti prints and seemingly hand-crafted tie dye sets, she s also becoming more open to align her idiosyncratic style with historic fashion brands. The singer recently put her own punkish spin on acid green Chanel in New York’s Shelter Island; debuted Stella McCartney s Beatles-inspired capsule collection at Glastonbury festival; and, of course, is often spotted wearing a Louis Vuitton bucket hat like nobody else.
Now, Eilish is taking one of the fashion world’s most recognizable prints—the signature Burberry tartan—and making it summer festival appropriate. Eilish posted a snap on Instagram of herself at the annual Reading and Leeds music festival, which took place this past weekend across the two respective British towns, in a Burberry trench coat with a matching balaclava. When you think of late summer festival style, one of the last things that might spring to mind is a century-old heritage print. But for a fashion renegade like Eilish, it feels just right.
