Indira Scott had just moved into a new apartment in Greenpoint when she was struck by the flu, at the precise moment New York Fashion Week castings began. “Meanwhile, I have never had the flu in my entire life, so it really rocked my world!” the model said, when asked to reflect back on the season’s highs and lows. “I took a couple days to try and fight it, although I was really supposed to rest a lot longer, but since it was during castings, I wanted to work as hard as I could, so I pushed through with everything I had!”
Fortunately, it did little to slow the momentum of the 21-year-old Jamaica, Queens native, whose easygoing demeanor and gorgeous hip-grazing braids put her on 17 runways over the course of four weeks, as she criss-crossed two continents and four cities. Armed with three film cameras, Scott captured her experience in a series of candid shots; they offer a glimpse at the lighter moments that occur within each model’s international show tour. To wit, when asked for her fashion month high, Scott replied: “It’s hard to pick just one high of fashion month because every day is filled with such worthwhile moments!”
See models like Sora Choi, playfully posing in the courtyard of the Rodin Museum before Dior, or the mob of Milanese fans cheerfully awaiting Scott out on the street. Here, Scott shares a record of her trip, plus the five little things she carried wherever she went.
“It’s hard to pick just one high of fashion month because every day is filled with such worthwhile moments! To choose a few, one would be opening for both Phillip Plein and Brock Collection. It was triumph for me because prior to modeling, I played a lot of sports and never wore heels. To be able to walk in a look that may have been a challenge for me in the past and lead was a strong moment!
Also Closing House of Holland was so much fun, as well as bonding with Henry Holland and talking with the cast of Sex Education on Netflix. I had legit just finished watching the entire season!”
Indira Scott’s 5 Fashion Month Must-Haves
Crystals: This season I found myself carrying mainly Selenite, Angelite, and Abalone Shell.
Black Prada booties go with everything and look hard to walk in, but they’re actually really comfortable!
My Marc Jacobs Pouch is a great size and convenient for holding day-to-day necessities (and it fit my film cameras).
The book I’m reading right now, Women Who Run With the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Ph.D
An Aaliyah Sweatshirt because it’s so comfy and easy with everything.
“Of course Dior is always surreal for me and always will be. My look this time was one of my favorites yet, and it was awesome following Adut [Akech] out on the runway because she is absolutely beautiful! Plus aside from my personal show highlights, I also got approved for my first apartment in New York, which is such an amazing milestone in my life!
In the end after going through another show season, I have been able to start balancing myself better, which allows me to fully understand and appreciate how much I am able to endure.”
