Last Week, Stars Went for Fit and Flare. The Result: Explosive Style

Holiday festivities, film festivals and premieres kept the world’s most stylish on their toes on the red carpet last week, where the big takeaway was silhouette and not—surprise!—embellishment. The elegance and confidence that comes with wearing a proper shoulder, neat waist, and an a-line or voluminous skirt made for winning looks from a disparate set of stars and houses. Ludivine Sagnier took Hedi Slimane for Celine’s chic jacket, houndstooth skirt slouchy high boots to the annual Christmas tree lighting celebration on the Champs-Elysees. Full glam was the dress code at the Marrakech Film Festival where juror Marion Cotillard dazzled in a crystal-laden yet deliciously understated Chanel gown for the opening ceremony.
Never undervalue the power of bold color for a big night! For example, Nathalie Emmanuel‘s coral, embroidered Valentino at the Cairo International Film Festival provided a bit of bit of mid-winter dazzle to the proceedings. Tilda Swinton has a long history with Haider Ackermann, yet the bubblegum pink suit she wore in Marrakech charted new territory, especially with orange hair and a red lip and shoes. Equally appealing was the two-piece, scribble-printed ensemble of ball skirt and crop top Halsey commissioned from Collina Strada for the Aria Awards. it was a crazy fabulous, waist-defining in the extreme, cheekily topped by marcel waves and playful macquillage, and fully sustainable to boot. Now that’s how to do fit with flare!
