The bob is undoubtedly the reigning hair trend of the last few years—and we’re still not bored of it. In fact, every season new styles emerge as the cut to have. While they’re all great for inspiration purposes, the truth is that there’s a bob for everyone, and a good stylist will be able to advise on what works best for you, your lifestyle, and your face shape.
So, what’s trending this season? Here are the five most notable bobs for fall 2024.
Butterfly bob
“Characterized by long layers, the butterfly cut owes its name to its face-framing shape, where curtain bangs and feathered layers, combed inwards, provide texture and movement that evoke the flutter of a butterfly’s wings,” hairstylist Natalia Infantes previously told Vogue. Celebrity fans of the cut include Selena Gomez and Jenna Ortega.
Micro-loc bob
Lupita Nyong’o recently stepped out at the London Film Festival with a flattering micro-loc bob, which curved inwards at ends and drew attention to her sculpted jawline. Worn with a center parting, this look also works well with braids, too.
Copper bob
Autumn is all about beautiful warm hues, which might explain our collective obsession with the copper bob right now—Google searches for the style are up over 5,000% in the last month. Burnished copper shades are more universally flattering, but go fiery if you’re in the market to make a statement.
Tousled midi-bob
This year has been defined by the myriad midi-bobs that have made their way into the mix. Everyone from Penélope Cruz to Sophie Turner has tried the style. Perhaps the most notable recent midi-bob belongs to Victoria Beckham, who has been wearing hers tousled and undone—quite the opposite to the ultra-polished lengths she has become synonymous with.
Bubble bob
The bubble bob is defined by its curvaceous ends, which bend under and frame the face. If you already have a bob, you can create a bubble effect by taking some straighteners and bending the ends inwards towards the face. It’s a minimal but sculptural look that works well on most face shapes.
