There’s no celebrity romance quite like the one between Victoria and David Beckham. The 50-year-old soccer legend and his pop star turned fashion multihyphenate wife, 51, have been together for almost 30 years, and their sweet relationship gives new meaning to the term “endgame.” Below, find everything you need to know about the Beckhams’ bond.
Early 1997: They meet
The woman then known best as Posh Spice first met a not-yet-internationally-known David Beckham via football, with Victoria writing in British Vogue, “…Love at first sight does exist. It will happen to you in the Manchester United players’ lounge—although you will get a little drunk, so exact details are hazy. While the other football players stand at the bar drinking with their mates, you will see David standing aside with his family. (He’s not even in the first team at this stage – you are the famous one.) And he has such a cute smile. You, too, are close to your family, and you will think how similar he feels to you. He’s going to ask for your number. (He still has the London-to-Manchester plane ticket on which you wrote it.)” Pardon the cliche, but…aww!
January 1998: They announce their engagement
Come on, you didn’t expect Victoria Beckham to have just one engagement ring, did you? The onetime Spice Girl has a whopping total of 15, ranging from the three-carat marquise-cut diamond on a plain yellow gold band that David used to propose to her in 1998 to the emerald-cut diamond with side baguettes that she showed off at the 2003 MTV Movie Awards.
March 1999: They become first-time parents
The Beckhams’ first child, Brooklyn Joseph Beckham, was born on March 4, 1999 at London’s Portland Hospital, with his unique name stemming from the fact that Victoria learned she was pregnant while in Brooklyn, New York.
July 1999: They wed
Victoria Adams became Victoria Beckham—not to mention the definitive WAG—during a stunning ceremony at Luttrellstown Castle in Dublin, Ireland, on July 4, 1999. There, the couple said their vows in front of just 29 guests, shared their first dance to Frank Sinatra’s recording of “It Had to Be You,” and raised a flag over the castle bearing their first initials and that of their baby son Brooklyn. (As if the nuptials themselves weren’t charming enough, the Beckhams sweetly rewore their coordinated purple ’fits 25 years later to mark their anniversary.)
September 2002: They welcome their second son
The Beckhams’ second son, Romeo James Beckham, was born on September 1, 2002, at London’s Portland Hospital (just like his big brother Brooklyn). A former soccer player clearly molded in his famous father’s image, the now-23-year-old model made his London Fashion Week debut in H&M leather last month and appeared on the Vogue World 2022 runway in New York three years prior.
February 2005: They welcome their third son
The Beckhams’ third son, Cruz David Beckham, was born on February 20, 2005 in Madrid, Spain, where the Beckhams moved in 2003 after David signed a four-year contract with Real Madrid. Now the 20-year-old Cruz is a musician reported to be dating songwriter Jackie Apostel.
July 2011: They welcome their first daughter
The Beckhams’ first daughter, Harper Seven Beckham, was born on July 10, 2011 at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where the Beckhams moved after David signed a five-year contract with the LA Galaxy in January 2007. He gushed about the now-14-year-old Harper even before her birth, saying while Victoria was pregnant: “Having three boys, you kind of expect another one, so finding out a little girl is in there is surprising, but, obviously, we are over the moon.”
January 2017: They go public about (privately) renewing their vows
We don’t know exactly when David and Victoria Beckham renewed their wedding vows, but we know that it happened thanks to David breaking the happy news during a British radio interview in 2017. “We stay together because we love each other, and because we have four wonderful children,” Beckham said, and really, who can put it better than that?
July 2019: They celebrate their 20th anniversary
The Beckhams celebrated 20 years of marriage on July 4, 2019 with a private tour of the Palace of Versailles (as one does), as well as some charming photos from the early days of their courtship—which included a wide variety of hairstyles for both Beckhams.
April 2022: They watch their eldest son get married
Although it seems (to us elder millennials, at least) like it was just yesterday that Brooklyn Beckham was a toddler, he cut a dashing and David Beckham-esque figure marrying actress Nicola Peltz at the bride’s family’s Palm Beach estate in April 2022. The Beckhams were, of course, on hand for their son’s big day, with David delivering a moving tribute to his eldest son and new daughter-in-law.
October 2025: Two years after her husband’s Netflix docuseries airs, Victoria gets her own
David joined his wife at SoHo’s Crosby Street Hotel earlier this month to celebrate the release of her new Netflix docuseries, Victoria Beckham, a follow-up of sorts to her husband’s four-part docuseries from 2023, just titled Beckham. “My husband convinced me to say yes,” Victoria said at the event of her decision to let director Nadia Hallgren capture her life and brand. “I think it was the success of David’s documentary that gave me the confidence to do it. The response has been wonderful—I feel very humbled by the whole thing.”
