The 2026 Golden Globes did not, for once, kick off awards season this year—that honor went to the Critics Choice Awards—but still, everyone knows that it’s the true starting gun for this always exhilarating, frequently confounding, and fashion-filled time of year. And when it comes to sheer star power, showstopping red-carpet looks, headline-grabbing speeches, surprising wins, and candid celebrity interactions, the glitzy 83rd ceremony delivered and then some. Here are all of the moments you might have missed.

The Sinners star looked radiant in a bright citrus yellow Matthew Reisman gown—and had some big news to share: she’s expecting! “I’ve decided to stop trying to camouflage my bump today at the Golden Globes, so me and baby can truly enjoy and embrace the moment fully together,” she told Vogue. Glorious.

But, no one displayed more red-carpet confidence than Duke McCloud—a.k.a. the kid who goes missing in All Her Fault—who posed like an absolute pro. A bright future surely awaits.

Nikki Glaser delivered

The Rock, Wicked, Leo, Timmy, James Cameron—no one was spared from the host’s blistering opening monologue. Bravo. Bonus points for her KPop Demon Hunters-themed song.

One Battle After Another dominated

Teyana Taylor opened the evening with a spectacular, tearful, best-supporting-actress win. “None of this is taken lightly and none of this is taken for granted,” she told the audience. “To my brown sisters and little brown girls watching tonight: our softness is not a liability, our debt is not too much, our light does not need permission to shine. We belong in every room we walk into. Our voices matter and our dreams deserve space.”

Later in the night, a visibly moved Paul Thomas Anderson scooped best screenplay, best director, and best musical or comedy.

If I Had Legs I’d Kick You’s Rose Byrne charmingly croaked through her emotional speech after winning best actress in a musical or comedy—besting Cynthia Erivo, Chase Infiniti, Amanda Seyfried, and Emma Stone—ending by thanking her husband, Bobby Cannavale, who couldn’t be there because the couple are getting a bearded dragon and he went to a reptile expo in New Jersey instead. Iconic. Surely she’ll now be on the best-actress Oscar shortlist?

The Secret Agent triumphed

Wagner Moura took best actor in a drama, while his film also secured the best international feature prize. Like Byrne, his place on the best-actor Oscar line-up now looks assured.

The Golden Globes ceremony has long been PDA central for the couple, and this year was no different. Cue the pair looking as cozy as ever, followed by Chalamet winning the best actor in a musical or comedy prize for Marty Supreme (beating both George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio—no mean feat) and shouting out his parents and “partner” once more. Oscars, here he comes.

Wanda Sykes was the MVP

She came onstage to present the award for best stand-up comedy to… Ricky Gervais. Given the controversial comedian was not in attendance she accepted it on his behalf, thanking “God and the trans community.” Legend.

Accepting her best-actress-in-a-drama statuette, the Irish actor looked incredibly moved. “This is not a normal situation to be in,” she said, giggling nervously. “This is a real honor.” (She added that her husband has been really enjoying the free canapés on the awards trail. As he should.) Prepare to watch her climb podiums for the next two months straight.

Then, Hamnet pulled off a shock best-drama victory over the likes of Sinners, It Was Just an Accident, The Secret Agent, and Sentimental Value.

Julia Roberts brought the room to its feet

The only real standing ovation of the night came not for a winner, but for the rom-com stalwart. And rightfully, so. Roberts leaned into it, telling everyone still seated to get to their feet, admitted to being sad that she “lost a minute ago,” shouted out Eva Victor, and told the audience to go watch Sorry, Baby. What could be better?
