Hopping off of water taxis and straight onto the red carpet with the tumult of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival all around you, while dealing with the Italian city’s rain shower and serious humidity levels, requires even more serious glam. Luckily, Amal Clooney has this down: Think undulating waves and shimmering makeup to weather the heat and catch the glint of the Venetian canals.
Last night, the humanitarian lawyer stepped out with husband George to support the premiere of his latest film, Jay Kelly, in a look that speaks to her elegant signature style. Clooney wore a fuschia, taffeta vintage dress from Jean-Louis Scherrer’s fall 1995 collection with a dramatic, billowing train, paired with sparkly Aquazzura heels, and a gold Jimmy Choo clutch. Her jewelry matched the moment too, all Cartier, including a delicate set of unreleased Panthere de Cartier earrings and a Grain de Cafe ring that complemented the tone of the dress with its figurative motif.
Clooney worked with her long-favored head of glam, the celebrity hairstylist and colorist Dimitris Giannetos. (Tapped often by everyone from Demi Moore through her incredible awards season run to the Kardashians, and creator of Gigi Hadid’s many-formed bob).
Speaking with Vogue, Giannetos says he kept Clooney’s hair a warm “pecan pie” color—over the years, Clooney has lightened up to caramel tones through her brunette hair, adding dimension and depth. “We added fresh, summery Italian inspired waves—the waves really accentuate her beautiful hair color,” says Giannetos. To keep her thick, waving hair in place, he used L’Oreal Paris Elnett Satin Strong Hold Hairspray and L’Oreal Paris Elvive Glycolic Gloss High Shine Leave-In Serum to give the hair an extra boost of shine. Its body and dimension added to Clooney’s voluminous silhouette that billowed on the red carpet.
Prior to her appearance in Venice, Clooney sought out cult favorite 111Skin to have the brand’s Black Diamond Non-Surgical Lift Facial, which includes a resurfacing peel, layers of brightening and firming products, and massage techniques for lifting and sculpting the face.
For makeup, Giannetos took cues from the deep, brilliant pink of Clooney’s statement archival gown. “I wanted to keep Amal’s makeup fresh with a hint of pink and shimmer,” he says. For a dewy, clear complexion, he used Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Foundation and cult favorite, the Charlotte Tilbury Lipstick Matte Revolution Lipstick in Pillow Talk. The light caught the shimmer on her cheeks and delicate pink blush, with a glossy taupe lip. To keep her makeup in place all night while enjoying Venice, he finished the look with the new matte Charlotte Tilbury Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray.
Having spent the last few months summering in the Italian Riviera, it doesn’t look like Amal Clooney is ready to face fall just yet. And if last night’s showstopping turn on the Venice red carpet is anything to go by, La Dolce Vita glam isn’t going anywhere either.
