Inside the 2016 Glamour Women of the Year Awards

If there’s one thing everyone learned at last night’s Glamour Women of the Year Awards at NeueHouse Hollywood, it’s that togetherness is what truly counts. The evening kicked off with a performance from Demi Lovato, some laughs from Tracee Ellis Ross, and then the honorees including IMF head Christine Lagarde, Nadia Murad, and Black Lives Matter founders Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi all spoke on global unity. But it was also an evening to celebrate each other’s accomplishments and strides for women: Yara Shahidi praised Zendaya; Lena Dunham, accompanied by Gabourey Sidibe, Freida Pinto, and Amber Heard, brought Emily Doe’s powerful message of college campus assault to life; and Anna Wintour spoke of the leadership and purpose that has made Miuccia Prada such a venerable figure in fashion. But then Amy Poehler arrived onstage to present Bono with his award for the strides he’s achieved in relieving discrimination and poverty, and brought the crowd to emotional highs. Gwen Stefani took to the stage after James Corden joked that she’s his inspiration for wearing a crop-top, before the evening concluded with a heartfelt and moving tribute to Secretary Hillary Clinton. Proving that we are all stronger together.
