Inspired by the dazzling, greenish-blue hues of the seashore as well as the classic gemstone Aquamarine, the nail polish trend feels as glamorous and refreshing as a day at the pool. Even better: This aquatic color scheme creates contrast with the skin, highlighting a tan. No wonder aquamarine nails are the pastel nail trend everyone wants.

There’s also something delightfully retro about the look, as these minty blue shades call to mind the Y2K aesthetic of the early 2000s. Think: The endless ocean shots in the cult-favorite film Blue Crush or the mermaid-inspired colorways worn by aughts It-girls like Paris Hilton. Indeed, a shade called Aqua Sky was even the Pantone Color of the Year back in 2003. “It’s a calming and serene cool shade of blue,” the brand said.

Recently, Kylie Jenner shared on social media that her latest manicure choice nodded to the aquamarine trend, too. Jenner’s take was a French manicure that dispenses with the classic white tips and instead features a baby blue shade of aquamarine accented with a few small silver studs on an elongated almond-shaped nail.
