While it’s easy to assume that all art enthusiasts wear your standard (and very stark) gallerist uniform of head-to-toe black, the creative types who descended upon Miami for Art Basel this past week proved that stereotype so wrong. With playful dashes of color and experimental silhouettes, the stylish crowd brought an exuberant approach to dressing for the fair.
Most likely inspired by South Beach’s unapologetically splashy coastal scene, Basel attendees broke out lime green jumpsuits and cobalt pantsuits. Sculptural outerwear often competed with the grand works on display; even the most casual of sundresses seemed to move seamlessly from the sands to artist studios. And although there was some of your standard black, it was always mixed in with an eye-popping palette, and that attention-grabbing styling was, in many cases, almost enough to divert your attention from the artwork.
