Ten months after giving birth to her son Isaac, supermodel and Vogue cover girl Ashley Graham walked us through a week in her wardrobe for our new 7 Days 7 Looks series. As she explained on camera, “There can be a lot of challenges after having a baby and thinking about your body.” She added, “After I had Isaac— even three months after I had him—nothing fit in my closet. So I went out and got a couple of essentials that actually fit. I don’t care what the size is. As long as it fit, it made me feel so much better.” Graham’s approach to post-baby dressing has been personal and practical, but it’s also been a stylish one. Be it a Khaite cardigan with a pretty nursing bra poking out or a velvet bustier and a pair of latex leggings, Graham’s week in looks challenges any traditional or assumed notions of how “new-mom style” is defined.
“This is my ‘mom’ uniform,” Graham said, miming air quotes. She continued, “I say ‘mom’ because I feel like I would wear this even if I wasn’t a mom.” Graham showed off her pretty sweater and bra set, which she topped off with one of Telfar’s It bags. “You don’t have to do a traditional diaper bag,” the model noted. “I have my pump inside,” she laughed, pulling out her breast pump and holding the bag up to her face while flashing a smile. “It literally holds everything. I have this bag in three colors.”
Graham also revealed in 7 Days 7 Looks that she dresses “for confidence, for ease.” To wit, she modeled Tuesday’s sheer green Helmut Lang turtleneck worn with a Bottega Veneta patent leather trench coat, matching patent Gucci gloves, and Vans sneakers. Graham also proudly showed off Thursday’s vintage Vivienne Westwood corset, and then Friday’s bodysuit, boots, and long shearling coat.
Thanks to Graham’s week in looks, it’s clear that getting dressed postpartum doesn’t mean that anyone has to sacrifice style or their love of fashion. On the contrary, Ashley Graham is the embodiment of confidence and cool. As she smiled and danced while admiring herself in the mirror, the supermodel and new mom said with pride, “This is what 10 months postpartum looks like, honey.”
