“Don t touch the art” may be a common sentiment when it comes to museums and art fairs, but in Babor’s case—it hopes you do touch it…or rather, buy it and use it.
That was the idea when it partnered with abstract artist Cevin Parker, to debut the limited-edition collaboration entitled “Welcome to Dreamland” at Art Basel Miami this past weekend. It was borne out of the idea of skin care and art as self-expression.
“Art is like therapy to find your inner kindness, your inner calm, self-reflection, self-love,” the Berlin-based artist explains. “Self-care, self-love, and self-expression is totally the line through everything [between my work and Babor’s]; this is what makes it a special connection.”
As Tim Waller, co-CEO and group brand president, puts it, “This is this kind of collaboration allows us to go a little bit off the path of what we would usually do with the brand because we’re very much about performance.” This partnership allowed the brand to have a little fun—transforming the brand’s best-selling serum ampoules—individually-packed, glass vials housing concentrated active ingredients like hyaluronic acid, probiotics, vitamin C, niacinamide, and ceramides—into a canvas of Parker’s imagined paintings.
Enter the limited-edition 14-day “The Art of Beauty Collection” Ampoule Serum Concentrates set that brings together two weeks worth of Babor’s bestselling treatments—four Hydra Plus hydrating ampoules, two Algae Vitalizer soothing ampoules, three Multi Vitamin ampoules rich in vitamin C and niacinamide, three Active Night regenerating ampoules, and two Lift Express skin-firming ampoules.
Here, Parker’s artwork was not unlike that of his traditional work. “For me, I do art always in a negative space to find my positive way,” he says of his inspiration. “And that’s the best part of the ampoules—you have to break something, you have to destroy it, but inside you will find something good.” In similar fashion, Parker, here, brings his paintings to life with augmented reality in order to “bring the tradition and the modern together.” When someone buys one of the co-created sets, they can scan the QR code to experience the AR animation and art in Cevin Parker Magazine. “We want to give every customer one product or artwork,” Parker says. "Each box is actually a piece of art.”
The just-debuted 14-day “The Art of Beauty Collection” is available to shop now at babor.com. Several seven-day ampoule sets will be introduced globally during spring 2024.
