Most weekday mornings, you can find me at Tracy Anderson Method in Tribeca by 6 or 7 a.m., where, after spending an hour or so on the mat, I shower, change, and do my best to look like a pulled-together human in less than 10 minutes. While learning to become a morning person over the years, I ve developed a set of streamlined beauty routines to get out of the locker room and into the office in a flash. To be completely honest, most days I slap on a series of moisturizers and a tinted SPF before racing down to 1 World Trade, but if I need to look totally presentable by 9 a.m., here s exactly what I do:
Hair
I only wash my hair two days a week, so preserving the blowout is key. Tracy s class is heated, but sometimes I cheat and use a fan at my mat (sorry Tracy!) and put my hair into a sort of loose ballet-teacher-inspired bun with a non-crease-forming scrunchie. Immediately after exiting the 86-degree room, I blow dry my roots with cold air to dry any sweaty patches, then hit the area with a oil-absorbing dry shampoo. As a beauty editor, I ve tried virtually every one on the market, and while there is no foolproof method to really saving your blowout, Drybar s formula comes pretty close.
Skin Care
I take my skin care very seriously—especially after sweating. I use Simple wipes (crazy gentle and biodegradable!) then splash my face with cold water before applying this La Prairie serum. It was recommended to me by a facialist about five years ago and has been in my arsenal ever since. Vitamin C is a must in the morning (hello antioxidants!) and to save weight in my makeup bag, I apply these one-time-use Elizabeth Arden ampoules that have definitely helped lighten some of my dark spots. Next, I use a moisturizer—I ve recently become obsessed with Dr. Howard Sobel s hyaluronic cream which is super thick but doesn t cause my skin to break out.
Then, if there s time (and I remember!) I ll massage all this in with a gua sha to help wake up my face.
Makeup
This Lancome CC cream is a total game changer. I don t wear foundation for the office but like to have a little coverage (in addition to an SPF) for the day. If I m feeling a little dry, I ll pat on Biossance s Rose Oil before applying and mix in Dr. Barbara Sturm s Glow Drops in for a little extra radiance.
Charlotte Tilbury apparently had mornings like these in mind when creating this palette, because it is a serious one-stop shop. I mix and match the neutral-toned colors for eyeshadow and apply with my ring finger to save time. Then I ll use the same medium-sized brush for blush and bronzer and dab on some of the highlighter shade on the tops of cheekbones, cupid s bow, and tip of my nose.
Thank you Jessica Alba for creating this masterpiece of a mascara, brilliantly designed with a dual-ended primer. It s great for lifting lashes from the root (meaning it s no big deal if you forget your lash curler).
I ll admit, sometimes attending to my eyebrows is an extra step I don t have time for. But if I ve got a spare 30 seconds, I ll pencil in my brows with Maybelline s defining pencil and set with Kelley Baker s clear gel. (Baker is the pro behind the arches of the Kardashian-Jenner clan.)
Lastly, while en route to the office, I ll swipe on a dab or two of Chanel s matte liquid lipstick. It is completely foolproof and doesn t require a mirror—an ideal last step in an on-the-go routine.
