Any conversation I have about skincare manages to involve collagen in some way. Am I taking my collagen powder to support my complexion from within? Have I tried that new Korean collagen coffee yet? Should I be using the best collagen face masks for firmer, glowier skin?
These are just a few of the questions I’m posed on a daily basis. By becoming a beauty editor, I by no means expected to become a purveyor of all things collagen—but I get it. In recent years, It’s become quite clear that collagen is integral to maintaining a youthful complexion. It makes up about 30% of our body s total proteins, and because these reserves diminish as we age, the cosmetics world has been researching how we can replenish them.

Collagen, as an ingredient, feels akin to a sort of beauty fountain of youth. The more you have, the better you can look (as it’s wildly perceived). When it comes to getting more of it, experts often recommend eating it—see the aforementioned powders and ingestibles. However, we’re seeing increased supply and demand of topical collagens, too. Searches for collagen skin-care in various forms are up upwards of 40% according to our metrics, and I have been noticing more collagen-infused products landing in the Vogue beauty closet. Biodance’s collagen mask was the first product of its kind that I tried and loved. It gave me the baby-soft skin of dreams, and I continue to use it weekly nearly a year after initially testing it.
But what stuck out to me was that the protein is not easily absorbed into skin due to its high molecular weight. “Contrary to popular belief, these masks are not actually going to stimulate collagen production,” dermatologist Dr. Mina Amin, MD explained. But why are we into topical collagen if it can’t really be absorbed by skin? Part of it is marketing, sure, but it’s also the other ingredients that come with the formulas. All of our favorites are also packed with ingredients like hyaluronic acid, peptides, squalane, and niacinamide, which per Dr. Amin “allows for topical application of hydrating ingredients for a prolonged period of time.”

Best Overall: Biodance Bio-Collagen Real Deep Mask
- Why We Love It: Vogue’s favorite collagen mask was a TikTok find—heavily influenced by all the people who wore it on long international flights, and arrived with an impeccably glowy visage. Though the Biodance mask rose to virality for its ability to quickly plump and smooth skin, it’s earned its hype. After overnight use, I find that it improves skin’s elasticity and reduces pore size via a blend of low-molecular weight collagen peptide, galactomyces ferment filtrate, niacinamide, and hyaluronic acid. Plus, it clings to skin well—making it excellent to multitask in. Just be sure to wear it until it becomes transparent to reap all its benefits.
- Key Ingredients: Low-molecular weight collagen peptide, galactomyces, oligo hyaluronic acid, niacinamide
- Type: Sheet
- Size: 4 masks per package
Best Korean: Sungboon Editor Deep Collagen Overnight Mask
- Why We Love It: In citing her prediction that overnight masks will be taking over the 2025 cosmetics scene, beauty industry veteran and founder and CEO of Landing International Sarah Chung Park revealed her penchant for Sungboon Editor’s formula. Meant top be worn for at least four hours, or better yet overnight, this blends 2,160,000 ppb of molecular collagen with a host of additional hydrators and skin-nourishers like glycerin, nine types of peptides, and hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid for skin that feels soft and bouncy.

- Type: Sheet
- Size: 4 masks per package
Best Jelly: Medicube Collagen Jelly Cream
- Why We Love It: Though this is definitely more face cream than mask, it works just as well as any of the other formulas on our list. Dr. Spearman recommends turning to Medicube’s Jelly Cream for deep hydration. Packed with freeze-dried hydrolyzed collagen, elastin, niacinamide, and squalane, “this is beneficial for those with dry or aging skin, as it helps improve elasticity and promotes long-lasting hydration,” she says, rejuvenating the skin without making it feel too greasy—a bonus for balancing oily skin types, too. We love it as an overnight treatment, though, its texture and illuminating-finish lends itself useful under makeup.
- Key Ingredients: Freeze-dried hydrolyzed collange, niacinamide, squalane, hydrolyzed elastin
- Type: Jelly
- Size: 110 mL / 3.71 fl. oz
Best For Eyes: Peter Thomas Roth FIRMx Collagen Hydra-Gel Face Eye Patches
- Why We Love It: Les yeux can get the collagen treatment too, via Peter Thomas Roth’s under-eye patches. Part of the brand’s FIRMx collection, expect unmatched tightening and smoothing to visibly reduce the look of bags and crow’s feet. The gel mask does so with three types of collagen, working in tandem with a thoughtful blend of supportive ingredients like hydroxyproline, collagen amino acids, hyaluronic acid, peptides, and squalane for a well-rounded formula that not only firms, but hydrates, soothes, and plumps.
- Key Ingredients: Marine collagen, plant collagen, hydrolyzed collagen, hydroxyproline, collagen amino acids, hyaluronic acid, peptides, and squalane
- Type: Under-eye patches
- Size: 90 patches per package
Best Cream: Laneige Bouncy and Firm Sleeping Mask
- Why We Love It: Dr. Spearman is a fan of this Laneige Sleeping Mask. Best for dry or sensitive skin types, she says this helps to boost skin elasticity without clogging pores via a gel-like formula that gives the skin a hydrated and refreshed look. To do so, it draws upon a peony and collagen complex, green tea probiotic lysate, hyaluronic acid, and peptides which improve skin’s radiance and firmness with consistent use.
- Key Ingredients: Peony Collagen Complex, peptides, green tea probiotic lysate, hyaluronic acids, hydro-melt glow capsules
- Type: Cream
- Size: 2.0 fl. oz./60 mL
Best Quick Treatment: Valmont Regenerating Collagen Mask
- Why We Love It: Why is Gunn partial to Valmont’s Regenerating Mask? The formula pairs collagen with growth factors to amplify the benefits to aging and stressed skin. “It’s perfect for restoring lost moisture and reinforcing skin’s natural barrier,” she says. The aim here is to really soothe, calm, replenish from within, making it exceptionally gentle. “It can even be used post-procedure.” One quality we really like about it is its speed. To use, simply spray your face with the brand’s featured Spray Swiss Glacial Sprint Water before applying the sheet mask. Let that sit for 30 minutes, remove, then apply a vial of the featured Collagen Post Treatment. Working in less than an hour, it’s one of the quickest collagen treatments on our list.
- Key Ingredients: Collagen, growth factors
- Type: Sheet
- Size: 5 treatments per package
Best With PDRN: Lapcos Deep Collagen Glass Skin Overnight Mask
- Why We Love It: “This mask is ideal for those seeking ultra-hydrated, dewy skin,” says Gunn. It helps to achieve that glass skin look by way of yeast fermented-derived collagen and hyaluronic acid that help support skin elasticity while you sleep. The sheet mask is also drenched in rose extract PDRN and niacinamide, which help to boost luminosity and even tone, too.
- Key Ingredients: Yeast fermented-derived collagen, rose extract PDRN, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide

Best with 24K Gold: Knesko Gold Repair Collagen Face Mask
- Why We Love It: Those, like Gunn, who are suckers for gold-infused skin-care will love this option by Knesko, which is powered by 24K gold and marine collagen—a duo she explains is great for “reducing inflammation, boosting elasticity, and [creating] the dewy glow we are all looking for.” Niacinamide, hyaluronic acid, aloe, and damask rose are also featured for additional redness reducing, skin soothing, and moisture replenishing properties.
- Key Ingredients: 24K colloidal gold, marine collagen, elastin, hyaluronic acid, aloe extract, vitamin E, niacinamide, damask rose
- Type: Sheet
- Size: 4 masks per package
What is a collagen face mask?
“A collagen face mask is a treatment typically infused with collagen, peptides, and hydrating ingredients designed to nourish and plump the skin,” says Gunn, mostly available in cream or sheet formulations designed to be used before bed. “The goal is to enhance skin elasticity, hydration, and brightness while you sleep.”
Do collagen face masks really work?
Yes, they really work—but not in the way you might think. “Collagen face masks offer temporary benefits, helping to hydrate, plump the skin, reduce fine lines, and improve texture,” says Dr. Spearman. However, she continues that collagen molecules can be too large to penetrate into the skin and remain on the surface when applied. “The collagen itself may not directly penetrate deeply into the skin, but the added peptides, humectants, and antioxidants will,” Gunn adds. “These added ingredients support collagen production for a more firm appearance over time.” To do so, per Spearman, you’re best to look for ingredients like retinoids, peptides, and vitamin C.
Can collagen be absorbed into the skin?
No, collagen molecules are too large to penetrate into the skin; rather, they sit on the surface. “However, collagen peptides are often smaller, making it easier for collagen to penetrate more effectively,” says Dr. Spearman.
Benefits of Collagen Face Masks
The benefits of collagen masks are many. “Collagen face masks hydrate, temporarily plump fine lines, and enhance skin elasticity,” according to Dr. Spearman, which can help improve overall skin texture via hydration. “In addition, hydrated skin looks smoother and firmer.”
How often should you do a collagen face mask?
Experts say that how often you use a collagen face mask is dependent on your skin type. “It is generally recommended to use a collagen face mask one to two times per week, giving your skin enough time to recover and utilize the benefits of the product,” Dr. Spearman advises. “If you have dry skin, you may use a mask two to three times per week for added moisture.”
Is it better to a sheet or jelly/cream collagen mask?
According to Dr. Spearman, the type of mask you use is dependent on your skin type. For dry skin, jelly or cream masks are better, while sheet masks are better for oily or acne-prone skin. “Sheet collagen masks are easy to apply and remove, making them a quick and convenient option,” she continues. “The mask is designed to fit your face, ensuring an even distribution of collagen and other ingredients. Sheet masks are packaged with hydrating ingredients, providing a great amount of moisture for the skin. However, they tend to offer short-term results and may not be suitable for all skin types. On the other hand, jelly or cream collagen masks may provide deeper hydration and longer-lasting moisture,” Dr. Spearman says.
Who Should Use a Collagen Face Mask
“Collagen masks are beneficial for anyone looking to improve skin hydration, firmness, and elasticity, especially those with dry, mature, or dull skin,” says Gunn; though, they’re also great for a quick dewy glow before a special occasion.
