While warmer days welcome rosé-filled evenings and lazy sunny weekends, they also bring the occasional summer skin issue. Here to prevent the season s largest pitfalls, in the form of a dull, irritated, or breakout-prone complexions, is a time-tested, model-approved solution that gets to work in just 10 minutes or less.
"Face masks are the perfect tool for summer to plump and even out skin," explains New York City based dermatologist Francesca Fusco, M.D., who counts the current season as the ideal time to go makeup-free. Due to increased temperatures and humidity levels, "pores tend to dilate" she says, making it easy for dirt and oil to get trapped and also "make them extra visible." Before slathering on a new purifying face mask, Fusco recommends everyone, regardless of their skin type, pick up an exfoliating cleanser, like Kate Somerville s grainy, textured formula to "slough off dead skin cells from the surface and the pores," and allow subsequent treatment ingredients to better penetrate the surface.
Then, she says, those with dry skin should reach for a gel or hyaluronic-packed sheet mask, like Neutrogena s deeply replenishing version or Glow Recipe s seasonally appropriate (and scented!) watermelon jelly formula—both are designed to cool and moisturize upon contact. For sensitive types, Fusco recommends soothing and redness-reducing products, like Origins new mega-mushroom calming mask or Kypris magical recovery in a jar, just be sure to "first try a test a patch on your hand," Fusco warns to ensure zero irritation.
