Everything You Need to Know

Are tweezers good for hair removal?

Per Vucetaj, “tweezing is the best method for brow-hair removal because it allows for precision—pulling one hair at a time.” Unlike waxing or threading, Loiz explains, tweezing lets you isolate and remove individual hairs for total control over the shape—a good tweezer grips hairs at the root, helping to prevent breakage and ingrowns. “They’re also great for strays or when you want to remove a single hair rather than an entire area,” says Mehta. “Because they remove hair from the root, the results last longer than shaving or trimming.”

When tweezing Vucetaj cautions against using a magnifying mirror. “It can make you pull hairs prematurely, before they’ve fully grown out, which can lead to ingrowns.” She also recommends wiping tweezers with an alcohol swab every few uses to prevent buildup and residue. Mehta notes that hair is easier to pluck post-shower, when pores are open. Her number-one tip is to step back every few plucks to check the big picture. “It ensures you’re creating the shape you actually want and not overdoing it.” If your skin gets irritated easily, apply a bit of aloe vera afterward to soothe.

Which type of tweezer is best for eyebrows?

Mehta’s go-to for shaping brows is an angled tweezer. “The slant tip allows you to cover more or less area depending on how you hold it,” she explains. “The flat edge is also very helpful when shaping, acting almost like a ruler against your brow line.” She adds that slant tips tend to be gentler on the skin, whereas pointed tweezers, generally very sharp, are better suited for fine or ingrown hairs.

Loiz is also team slant tip, calling it “king” for general brow grooming. She notes that pointed tips can still be useful for ingrown hairs or ultra-fine detail work, but when it comes to everyday shaping, slanted wins.

How to Choose the Best Tweezers

When selecting tweezers, Mehta recommends looking for a uniform, sharp tip, which allows for precision and easy plucking. Dull tips struggle to grasp individual hairs and often break them instead of removing them from the root. She also prefers stainless steel for its durability, rust resistance, and easy disinfecting—stressing the importance of comfort. “There should be some tension, but not so much that it feels stiff or strains your hand,” she says.

Loiz adds that a sharp, perfectly aligned edge is essential. “If the tips don’t close perfectly or grip the hair on the first try, move on,” she says. Stainless steel construction maintains grip over time and is easy to sanitize. And if you’re a pro, or just picky about precision, Loiz suggests investing in a brand known for lasting performance.
