Has Blake Lively ever had a bad hair day? Since we first clocked the tousled golden halo of Gossip Girl’s Serena van der Woodsen all the way back in 2007 (and, for the real heads, the bouncy blonde Bridget Vreeland in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants in 2005), Blake Lively has kept an enviously thick and luscious head of hair. Hairdo agnostic, too: boho waves, bombshell curls, deep side-parted buns, and fishtail braids. And after launching her very own haircare brand Blake Brown late last year, she’s dripfed her best beauty secrets to her followers.

This week, the actor showed us how she does quick glam, “8 minute deep wave curls,” to be clear: “for when you’re in a hurry, but want a quick glam look for a special occasion.”

The It Ends With Us star begins by brushing through her hair thoroughly, which she’s prepped with a hair wash and rough, DIY blowout. Next, a generous helping of her brand’s Glam Mousse distributed evenly through her hair, from just below the temples and through to the ends. The trick, Lively shares, is keeping your curling iron horizontal while you work: take four to five-inch sections of hair from the front, wrap it around your styling tool a few times, let it fall, generously hairspray, and repeat. Back brush your roots with a wide bristle brush for some extra volume.

“Fast glam for the mamas and rushed girlies,” Lively concludes, showing her loose but uniform undulating waves that she sweeps to the side for added drama and dimension. She paired the glam with an inky blue velvet corset and a burgundy stone and beaded necklace.

Later, Lively posted a photo to her Instagram Stories showing her look in action alongside her husband Ryan Reynolds: “Puttin’ my night out hair to good use,” she captioned it, adding beneath: “I spy the Empire Hotel [if you know, you know].” Well, we do know: The Empire Hotel was a regular filming location for Gossip Girl.

When Lively first launched Blake Brown, she told Vogue some more of her haircare secrets: namely, that she skips the conditioner. Her haircare system, rather, uses two sets of shampoo and hair masks: one set dedicated to hydration, and one dedicated to strengthening because “your hair needs two things, strength and moisture,” as she explained. From there, shampoo (sometimes twice if you have a lot of product in your hair), smooth in a mask for at least 30 seconds, and rinse. Next time you’re in the shower, swap the duo for the other set. Lively claims the sans conditioner, mask only routine has done wonders for her hair strength and elasticity. It looks like it works, anyway: from fairy princess hair for the Met Gala to glossy, nostalgic victory rolls.

Blake Lively or not, soft and flowing curls are a solid date night option: set with a good mousse and hairspray for lasting hold and shine, they’ll see you through drinks, dinner—and the rest.
