As somebody with a (bra) cup that overfloweth, I think a lot about formal event dressing. For example: What’s the right amount of boob to show at a wedding, my partner’s work event, or the MAHA Gala? Tonight celebrities set the—very perky—standard while walking the blue carpet at the 2025 Met Gala: Boobs are back.
Take Megan Thee Stallion, who arrived in a sparkling platinum Michael Kors Collection dress. Her copper red hair was swept into a futuristic bubble ponytail—referencing a photo of Josephine Baker—that revealed her décolletage. Sydney Sweeney also opted for an updo to match her sparkling Miu Miu gown, a keyhole neckline offering a window to—well, not her soul, but you know. And model Precious Lee’s golden catsuit was perfectly skintight. Each outfit took a different point of view on the night’s dress code, Tailored for You. And any busty girl knows—you need a good tailor to transform an outfit from flowing to flattering.
In an era of increased pressure to be rail thin (and a movement away from size inclusivity), it’s nice to see women on The Met’s blue carpet embracing their curves.
Do I dare tell you about my own ensemble? I ditched the bullet bra for the night and sourced two pieces of Patrick Kelly from 1989, a leopard-print, skintight lace-up dress and matching quilted jacket. At the beginning of my evening, I was coy, keeping myself snuggly wrapped inside the jacket. But by the end of the night? Well, that jacket was respectfully tucked into a chair, left behind. My girls and I wanted to join the rest of the girls.
