Toasting New CFDA Members in Tory Burch’s Elegant Apartment

Following a whirlwind fashion month, some of the biggest names in American fashion turned out to celebrate the new class of CFDA members Wednesday evening in the gorgeous home of Tory Burch. To say it was a welcome reprieve from the chaos of fashion shows would be the understatement of the year. As Champagne was poured throughout Burch s elegant apartment in The Pierre, newly christened CFDA members like Stuart Vevers and Aurora James mingled with longtime ones including Gilles Mendel and Burch herself. “I love what the CFDA does. I love than an American company really embraces new exciting talent and really nurtures them and helps them build their business. For me, someone who supports women entrepreneurs, it’s really exciting to be a part of it,” said the designer.

CFDA CEO Steven Kolb was also on hand, reflecting on the changing nature of the fashion business, which was on full view at New York Fashion Week. “Designers need to feel comfortable doing what’s right for them, and I think we saw that,” he said, referencing Tommy Hilfiger and Tom Ford’s see-now-buy-now collections and Derek Lam’s intimate presentation.

Burch echoed Kolb’s sentiment, “I would say people should do what’s right for them. It should be about what works for your business.” Or to put it in Internet parlance: "You do you."
