Chanel s fine jewelry collection, Comète, was founded in the 19th to realize Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel’s dream of wanting “to cover women in constellations.” The house founder famously uttered those words in 1932, around the time Comète, her first fine jewelry, was launched.

Now, the sentiment has extended to the Les Exclusifs de Chanel fragrance collection. Perfumer Olivier Polge, the brand’s in-house nose and the creator of the new scent, was very aware of the legacy around constellations, stars, and comets within the brand. So, how do you translate stardust into a perfume? With powdery, long-lasting notes. “I combined powdery scents and let the raw materials evolve on my desk in Paris—this is the evolution of most of the scents I develop so that I can be precise,” explained Polge.

Fans of Chanel’s No 19, with its powdery iris notes will love this new fragrance, which is even more intense, according to Polge. “We grow the iris ourselves—it’s very difficult to extract so we distill it all as well.” Cherry blossom and heliotrope are added to the juice for warmth and depth, making Comète’s musky scent something that can take you from day to night, he says.

According to Polge, Comète is a way for us all to spritz a little of Chanel’s stardust on ourselves. The scent is “powdery, luminous, and optimistic”, he says. And who doesn’t want a sprinkle of that?
