There is a time for prettiness when the world is becoming too ugly, Karl Lagerfeld said to journalists backstage following this morning s spectacular Paris couture show. And indeed, the French fashion house s walled garden setting—replete with its Versailles-worthy fountain—played host to a lineup of ruffled, beribboned and embellished frocks and day suits that spoke to a gentler era. Also worth note? The striking rose-adorned headpieces devised by hairstylist Sam McKnight for the occasion.

Each model wore a deft collection of pastel blooms—attached to a featherweight black swath of netting that covered the face—atop her easy low ponytail. The look merged the rigor of 1950s couture (think Lisa Fonssagrives circa the early 50s) with a certain bridal elegance. The latter was no surprise, perhaps, given Lagerfeld s show-stopping finale look). That white feathered finale tux, topped with a snow-colored veil nad a few fresh flowers tucked high in the hair, is a monochromatic proposition destined to be stolen instantly by city hall brides everywhere.
