Just a few weeks ago, Chloë Sevigny was busy slaying the Venice Film Festival red carpet in extremely-cool Simone Rocha and Saint Laurent looks. (She and stylist Haley Wollens simply never miss.) But tonight, the actor descended upon her next big Hollywood event—the 2025 Emmys—where she is nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or Movie, for her role in Ryan Murphy’s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. (She portrayed their mother, Kitty.) “It means a lot,” Sevigny tells Vogue of the acknowledgment. “I’ve always been drawn to things I find interesting, challenging, or that have something to say, which this definitely did. And of course, any time you play a real-life person, it is a big responsibility. So, to be recognized by my peers for stepping into this world that was difficult, both emotionally and psychologically, but also aimed to give Kitty a modicum of decency and respect, feels very rewarding.”

It was not an easy role to take on, but Sevigny welcomed the challenge. “I’m super grateful to Ryan for giving me this opportunity to stretch as an actor, and go to new and scary place,” she says. “Anything around abuse with children is, to me, the darkest of the dark. I remember reading the scripts and crying uncontrollably. There’s real weight to it, and playing someone so enmeshed in tragedy and moral ambiguity—those themes stay you. But that’s also the thrilling part of getting to play a role like this; it demands more of you.”

It may have been an intense series to shoot, but this evening, Sevigny treated the Emmys red carpet and awards ceremony as a moment to celebrate all that hard work. When it comes to awards season dressing, the actor says she also views fashion as a form of storytelling. “I’ve always loved fashion with a point of view—whether it’s referencing the archives, or something more avant-garde,” Sevigny says. “I’m inspired by pieces that somehow still feel personal.” Of course, her stylist Wollens plays a pivotal role in bringing her looks to life. “Haley has this amazing ability to balance respect for fashion history with a kind of irreverence that keeps everything current,” says Sevigny. “She’s very referential, which I love, and there’s this intuitive trust between us. I feel like we’re collaborators—not just playing dress-up.”

Tonight, the duo landed on a a custom Old Hollywood-style look by Saint Laurent, punctuated by Tiffany Co jewels. “I was drawn to the silhouette of the dress immediately—there’s a nod to Old Hollywood, but with something a little subversive underneath,” says Sevigny. “The halter and sleeves creating a bit of tension between the structure and fluidity, which I love.” Her jewels—including a pair of 18-karat gold and 30-karat diamond earrings, and 18-karat cross clips—were another favorite detail. “The Tiffany pieces we selected to add a bit of drama and glamour to the overall look,” Sevigny says. “They matched so perfectly, it was almost as though they could have been part of the original design.” It made for a fabulous end result.

Once Sevigny heads inside, she says, she be excited to reunite with her cast and crew mates. “I’m looking forward to seeing Ryan and my cast—Nicholas, Cooper, and Javier—and to be able to celebrate together. It’s been some time since I last attended the Emmys, when we were doing Big Love, so I’m just excited to be in the room and love being around actors and other show people.” In terms of the after-parties, she says she will dance the night away—even if she loses on the big award. “Either way, it will be a celebration,” she says. “But I am in the middle of shooting The Five-Star Weekend for Peacock right now, so I’ll be on a very early flight back to the East Coast come Monday morning!”
