Chloë Sevigny has defined cool girl style since the 1990s. After the actor broke onto the scene with her breakout film Boys Don’t Cry, it didn’t take long for Sevigny to cultivate a signature red carpet style—often filled with chic slip dresses, whimsical lace tops, and quirky tights. Her wardrobe from the decade ticks all the trend boxes, be it bomber jackets or jeans! Though she’s maintained her It girl status throughout the years, a ’90s sensibility is always still present in her fashion choices. Just take her latest look during New York Fashion Week: Sevigny attended a Montblanc party last night and revived an iconic piece from the decade.

Her retro-chic accessory for the evening? It was a red satin choker, tied into a pretty little bow. If you remember, chokers were huge in the ’90s, most often worn with a tube top and jelly sandals. To make the kitschy necklace feel current, however, Sevigny paired it with a gold tinsel Simone Rocha coat-dress, which is from the designer’s recent fall 2023 collection. Her simple, strappy black sandals—with a pointed sole—also felt completely modern (it’s no Steve Madden Slinkie). On anyone else, that choker could have read costumey—but on Sevigny, it’s just downright cool
